My name is Alexa Blackburn, I’m 21 years old, and a senior majoring in communications and minoring in advertising. One day I hope to have a job on the advertising side of the music industry. I’m from Tampa, FL and had lived here all of my life, until recently when I decided to study abroad. I moved to Leeds, England with my boyfriend for five months in January 2012 and fell in love with it. I’m an extremely adventurous person, so being able to live in the UK and travel throughout Europe was the best experience of my life.
The first class was much different than I had expected. I didn’t realize how much coding information I would have to learn. I’v never dealt with coding before, so I’m definitely a little nervous about figuring it all out. During the lecture portion of the class, I found myself getting lost much more than when we actually started practicing the coding for ourselves. It was really neat to be able to see the codes we were writing being transformed into lines and shapes with various colors. I’m already learning how crucial it is to pay attention to every character that is typed while coding, because if one tiny thing isn’t correct, the entire code wont work. Coding is a very complex and interesting process, and one of my favorite things that we did for the first class was when we added and manipulated gradient colors in the shapes we had created.
I really hope that by the end of this course I will be able to transform the ideas in my head to the computer screen. Not being able to do this has held me back in work and other classes that I have previously taken. I’m excited to work with Adobe products because I’v never learned them before, and I know how important they are. By the time this class is over I hope to have a good understanding of how Illustrator, Photoshop, and Design work so that I can excel at work and in school.
